The Latest Field trip

I will put in pictures when I get the chance. I already have the captions for them cause I have the pictures already picked out.
This last monday we went on a field trip to all the lookouts in the city. It was really great. We first went to August Victoria, the Lutheran Church of the Ascension of Christ into heaven after his ressurection. This church was one of the most beautiful churches that I have ever seen. It was build in the 19th century by some German king so it really isn't that old but it really was nice. We went to the top of the tower which is about 140 ft. and we could see all of Jerusalem, the west bank, the city edges of Bethlahem and everything else. It had a great view.

Here are some the pictures from the inside. One of our professors had no microphone but would just talk and it was so loud there. The sound would also echo off all the walls and so we also couldn't really hear anything much either. It was a pretty place.

We went to this place called seven arches hotel overlook and we could see a different angle of the whole city of Jerusalem. Here is a picture of Taeler, and I with the a man from the time of Jesus, over 2000 years old, and his donkey.

Yes, we did have to pay for that picture. He didn't tell us until we had already taken it though. That is how is down here. I've gotten jipped only twice, but I am learning.

We went to this place called nabi Samwil which mean prophet Samuel in Arabic. This place is currently working as a Jewish mosque but what makes it so famous is the prophet Samuel was buried here on the mountian. It was cool to go down inside and see what it is like to be an Orthodox Jew. They study the Torah, mainly making up the first 5 books of moses, all day.

The boys were lucky because the Orthodox Jews on the Girls side were not so nice and they wouldn't any of them go down and see the tomb of samuel.

This is a picture on top of the building. We even got our religion professor to jump with us.

One of the last places that we went was a place call the deir mar elias monastery. We didn't go in but we went behind it and looked out across the plains of Judea. hahahah!! The reason I laugh is that they are not plains at all!! They are HUGE hills that I wouldn't want to walk up. Here we all got in a group and sang, Far far away on Judea's Plains. It was so cool just to be there and to get a picture of really what the Judean plains are. We are here in the raining season and it makes it a little bit greener but I couldn't image living here or being here in the summer time. It would be so dead.

Here King David when he was a little boy watched his sheep in Judea's plains. In the background you can see Bethlehem and the road where Jacob's wife Rachel died. We won't be able to go to Rachel's tomb because there is always too much tension there and they don't want us anywhere near it.

This was a great field trip and we got understand a lot more the geography of this area. It can get really confusing with all the names of people, cities, hills, valleys, and etc..that it is nice to actually go there and learn it for your self. I really do feel like the scriptures are coming alive for me!! The old testament really is a lot of fun!!!

Right now we are reading about Moses and Egypt to prepare for our trip there next thursday!!! I am so excited!!
